Sea Ice Thickness Monitoring
Sea ice thickness of each 20 Hz measurement (Baseline-F onwards), computed from the sea ice freeboard, the snow depth and density, and the sea water and sea ice densities, assuming hydrostatic equilibrium. Thickness is negative where the sea ice freeboard is negative. Only computed in SAR and SARin modes. Baseline-F products contain 0 rather than the fill value in LRM mode and where the freeboard error flag is set, so these measurements are excluded. The 10 km grid maps show a statistic (ie the median) of the measurements in each cell of a 10 km polar stereographic grid.
Measurements with the freeboard_error bit (mask 65536) of flag_prod_status_20_ku set are excluded. Only SAR and SARin mode measurements are used.
